BUKOBA CELEBRATES WORLD TOURISM DAY
(WTD) 2004
The year 2004 theme was Tourism
& Sports two living forces for mutual understanding culture
and development of the society. Internationally, World Tourism
Day Celebrations started 25 years ago. Bukoba has celebrated
WTD consecutively for the last 3 years.
Kiroyera tours organized Football competitions
in corroboration with Tanzania Sports Promotion and Training
Center (TSPTC) together with Walkgard Hotel and Tours at Bukoba’s
Kaitaba Stadium. Six teams namely Kagera Sugar, Police F.C.
Magereza F.C, Balimi F.C, Victoria Women’s F.C and BTC Women
F.C participated in the festival from 24th to 27th Sept, 2004.
Each match had a guest of honor who addressed
the participants on the importance of Sports and Tourism in
economic development of our society.
The Kagera sugar FC won the First Prize by
acquiring the WTD Cup, and a Certificate, and other teams got
a trophy with certificate of participation.
Attendants including Guests of Honor were the
Provincial Regional Administrative Secretary, Regional Police
Commander, Regional Prisons Officer, Manager CRDB Bank, Manager
Kagera Sugar Factory and people around Bukoba and nearby districts.
Over the four days people poured into Kaitaba Stadium to watch
the competitions toward the World Tourism day 27th September
2004.
BEANS AND MAIZE PLANTING SEASON –KAGERA
Farmers in Kagera region have started planting Beans and Maize
(subsistence crops) for this season and are expecting harvesting
in December before X mass and New year. The short rains have
started farmers are busy with planting activities all over Kagera
region. Now Bukoba is looking more green. However, there is
a heat wave going through and farmers may loose this season’s
crop!
TOURISTS DATA – GERMANS No.1 ,SWITZERLAND No2
This tourist season July to September,
50 tourists from Germany visited attractions in Kagera Region
leading in numbers via Kiroyera Tours, the second tourists are
from Switzerland and the third are from Britain.
KIROYERA TOURS- MCK ATTENDED WTO SEMINAR
IN ARUSHA
The Managing Director of Kiroyera Tours Mrs. Mary Kalikawe attended
the World Tourism Organization Regional workshop on Sustainable
Tourism Development and Poverty alleviation in Arusha for three
days. The Seminar had participants from 13 Anglophone countries.
Mary attended the seminar in her capacity as one member of the
Tanzania Tourist Board.
LAKE VICTORIA CONSERVATION WORKSHOP
Assistant Tours management Officer Mr. William Oswald attended
the One day Workshop in ELCT Bukoba Hotel Hall which was organized
by KADETFU regarding the conservation of the Lake Victoria (the
Second Largest Lake). The Regional Commissioner Honorable T.
Kiwelu did the official launching of the workshop. Around 40
people and government officials from Bukoba and Muleba attended
the workshop. We had also resource persons from Uganda and Kenya
because the lake Victoria is shared by all three countries.
TIP OF THE MONTH- CHICKENS LOW PRICE
IN KAGERA
Chickens are plenty available in Kagera especially in Bukoba
where farmers come and sell their chicken because of seasonal
planting of Maize and Beans. At this period you get an organically
bred chicken at a cost of a dollar.
BUSINESS ADVISOR JOINS KIROYERA TOURS
Mr. Bart Jean Pierre Lacroix
an experienced business advisor from the Netherlands has joined
Kiroyera Tours from 3 October 2004. He is now in Morogoro taking
his Kiswahili training. A big welcome to Bart!
